Temperature mapping is a topic we’ve explored extensively in our previous blogs and articles. We’ve covered what it is and why it’s essential, but one question remains: What are the key steps to a successful temperature mapping service? We'll break it down for you in this article, step by step.

Every environment is unique, so before we begin, we take the time to understand your specific requirements. This helps us define the scope of the study and determine what is needed to deliver accurate results. At the enquiry stage, we will assess whether a site survey is required, particularly for more complex mapping exercises, and use this information to shape the full scope of work.

The agreed mapping scope document acts as your formal quotation and will include details on:

  • The equipment or area to be mapped
  • The number and location of mapping positions
  • The planned duration of the study (24h, 48h, 5-day or 7-day)

This document will be finalised before any site visit and agreed with you in advance. Once approved, the mapping date will be arranged at a time that suits your team. If any last-minute adjustments are needed, the engineer will coordinate with our Professional Services Manager before making any changes.

Our engineer will arrive on site on the agreed day to install the data loggers and sensors in the pre-defined locations. These will be left in place to record data for the agreed duration, which is typically between 24 hours and 7 days, depending on your internal and regulatory requirements.

If needed, we can also repeat the study under different conditions, such as empty versus full storage or during seasonal changes, to provide a more comprehensive understanding of your environment.

Once the mapping is complete, the equipment will be collected and the data carefully reviewed. You will receive a detailed report of the findings, along with a UKAS-accredited certificate. This confirms that the mapping was carried out in line with recognised standards and demonstrates that your environment meets relevant industry regulations.

And there you have it! In just four simple steps, you’ll receive a comprehensive temperature mapping report, confirming that your laboratory meets industry regulations while ensuring your products and samples are stored safely, at optimal temperatures.
